Gemstones: Beautiful, Valuable, Rare
Sometimes, I wonder how she gets everything done.
A fashion designer and tailor, mother, investor and recreational foodie, this remarkable woman does more than just inspire: she revolutionises.
Most know her as the Virtuous Woman, the Woman of Noble Character but she's commonly known as the "Proverbs 31 Woman"
When looking for inspirational stories on women for this brand new theme, She is: Celebrating Women, her name topped the list. Not because she is often talked about by women of the Christian faith, but because that her story has key principles that shaped my values and understanding of value and worth.
What are those principles?
Well, in truth, they are too many to list (who knows? Maybe they could form an excellent book) but I will share a few that will hopefully inspire you.
But the question is:
Are you ready to hear her story?
First, some background
The Proverbs 31 Woman is a lady of inspiration.
An outstanding fashion designer, tailor and investor, this woman is a symbol of excellence, innovation and passion. Aside from making money from her designs, she creates another stream of income through investment in a vineyard business.
A wife, mother and active lady in her community, she seeks to not only enrich her household but her environment with her gifts and talents.
One can sit and wonder, how does she balance all this? How does she ensure that she gets everything done and still stay strong?
Well, this wonderful lady has 3 secret keys to her success:
1) She is virtuous and capable. If there is one thing about her life is the value she carries. Virtuous means the same thing as "pure". Purity is often associated with God. This lady establishes her identity in God because she knows that her true worth and value is found in Him.
Another thing is that she is capable. She ensures that she invests in herself to know more. To be more. She understands having competency i.e. capacity to have many skills, adds value to her work.
In short, she knows how to add value to herself before she can add value to the others.
2) She works on inner beauty. Even though she cares about looking her best, she works more on being her best self. Character announces deeds, so she ensures that in all she does, her character imitates God. Her words, activities and interactions dictate her character.
3) She trusts God. Managing a busy life isn't easy and the Proverbs 31 woman knows that she cannot control everything and things can go wrong.
But she has this super confidence in God. Continuously, she laughs without fear of the future. This is because she knows that her future is secure in the One who holds her life.
Why Gemstones?
When coming up with a name for her story, the word "Gemstones" came to mind.
In Proverbs 31:10, as she is introduced, a question is posed.
"An excellent woman [one who is spiritual, capable, intelligent and virtuous] who can find her? Her value is more than jewels and her worth is far above rubies and pearls."
From this verse, there is one powerful key about the Proverbs 31 Woman that makes her who she is.
Her power is in the value she carries for herself.
The value she carries is far more than rubies and all things we stand in awe of because she allows her value to be defined not by societal norms and opinions but by the One who created those pearls.
Often times, when we look at the Proverbs 31, we want to do the stuff she does. While this a good thing to aim for, I think there is something deeper about her that must be understood.
Before she does anything else, she remembers her worth.
A Gemstone is not just a stone in rough: It is an attitude and character trait.
It is understanding that you are beautiful, full of value and uniquely rare.
It is understanding that because you are worth more, you can never settle for less but always perform your best.
That is wisdom.
As you go on this week, remember that your worth is defined in what God says, not what people say.
"When you carry value in yourself, you honouring God because you are His creation, a beautiful creation of Him" (Anonymous).
