Mission (I'm)possible

I walked into dorm, thinking about life again.

I just came from class and I was quite tired, but it seemed like my mind was more energetic than it needed to be.

I was thinking about God's Great Vision. The one where He desired for humanity to display His glory throughout the earth.
I acknowledged the grandness of such a vision, but I began to wonder, is this even possible?
Look at the world, I thought to myself. It is virtually impossible to live at level-God. Is it really possible to be good most of the time? How can one live for God in a world that demands the opposite?

Suddenly, my pink Bible and my personal diary seemed to wink at me from the corner of my eye. I decided to pick them up and flip through the pages and allow my thoughts to guide me.

I thought of the Old Testament, in Exodus. After the Israelites left Egypt, God took them to Mount Sinai to give them a step-by-step guide on how to live for God. The Law, as it was known, was really detailed and bulky. The Israelites tried to obey but they always ended up disobeying. Even the promised leaders like David failed to full live up to the laws.

This seemed like a serious case of Mission Impossible. Who can show us how to live right with God?

However, hope came in the form of a baby born in Nazareth.

In the New Testament, we see Jesus come onto the scene born in manger. He is seen preaching out the Law of God and living it out in every day situations. The people must have wondered: "Could Jesus be the example on how to live our lives for God?"
Their perceptions were slightly disturbed when Jesus was crucified by the Romans.
On the the third day, Jesus rose from the grave.(Matthew 28). He spent some time with His disciples and later prepared to ascend. Before He left, however, He said this to them:

"I have been given all authority in Heaven and on Earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey the commands I have given you." (Matthew 28:18-19).

These same powerful words now became the core mission of what His followers were to do. This is called the Great Commission.

As I read this verse, it dawned on me what Jesus came to do:

He came to reinstate our mission to attaining God's vision.

As looked upon earlier, in Visions and Marshmallow Towers, when humanity fell out of alignment in the Garden of Eden, we began to fulfil our own visions and satisfy our own desires. However, these desires were not in alignment of what God wanted to see.

When Jesus came to Earth, He came in the form of a human, from a baby to an adult, to show us that living for God can start from a young age.
Before He left for Heaven, Jesus gave us a "final word" of instructions that formed the mission of God:

1) Make disciples of all nations. Regardless of the race, age or ethnicity, Jesus instructs us to let people know about how to live for God, through Him.

2) Baptise them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Baptism is the act of dipping a person in water, symbolising a new a rebirth of life in God's fullness. (Let people become filled with the fullness of God)

3) Teach them to Obey: In order to achieve God's vision, following God's steps allows Him to mould you to become the person you need to become. This is shown through Jesus' life on Earth and through the Bible, His Word. Having the fullness of God mentioned in the second part enables you to live for God everyday.

From this instructions, we are given a promise: "And be sure of this, I am with you, even to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:20)

We are promised eternity whenever we follow the guidelines of what God has set out from us.

As I read this, I took my diary and noted down the revelation from what I just read. But a question surfaced: knowing this, how can we apply this to our lives?

One thing I have come to realise is  that God gave us one main purpose, but He has different ways of attaining it.

God often uses what we have to achieve the Great Commission, if we let Him. This happens when we come to a point where our dreams, missions, passions and talents revolve around fulfilling His mission.

Using myself as an example, I have a passion for writing and literary analysis. I also had a mission to inspire and empower people to become better leaders by writing about my life and what I have learnt from it.
However, this mission alone is what Katai would want, but I live for Christ, so everything I do has Him in it. The mission then had to change: guide people through personal life stories to spread God's light of hope and inspire them to be Christ's powerful leaders (shortened to Guide. Light. Inspire).

God is willing to use what He has given you (passions, dreams and visions) for His glory. Whether you are a singer, artist, filmmaker, lawyer, housewife or an aspiring President, your unique passions can portray Christ, if you allow them to.

Know this, what step can you take to make this a reality?

Warning: the following word is one many people do not like hearing:

Surrender your plans to God. Proverbs 16:3 says, "Commit your actions to the LORD and your plans will succeed." When you allow God to take over your plans and actions for greatness, He will begin to show you how you can do it for His glory.

I ended up with one conclusion: when you surrender to God, you allow Him to build you into the person you are created to be.

As I sat back and gently closed my Bible, I turned the page of my diary and my eyes caught sight of a title in red cursive handwriting:

The Blessing of Leadership.

What does that mean?

I guess that is what the next blog post will answer.
