The Greatness Diary
Nelson Mandela. Mother Theresa. Martin Luther King Jr. Mahatma Gandhi.
When you see these names, what comes to your mind? For me, it is the word greatness.
There is a thought that comes to me on what made these people so renowned, memorable and most of all, great? What I have come to realise is that they were ordinary people who went the extraordinary mile to achieve extraordinary results. Guess what does that means? You too can be great. Yes, you, Reader. You are just a decision away on deciding whether you want to become. What does this mean? You may ask. Well, that is what this article is about.
Are you ready?
Welcome to the Greatness Diary.
In this life, we all have different goals, dreams, visions and ambitions. We desire to have success. Some define success as being rich and wealthy, having power and status and living the "best of the best." We focus our energy and time to attain this. This is all good, I agree: it is alright to aim for the best in life. But how many of us want to leave a legacy? How many of us want to be great? How about we use that amazing energy on focusing on what we will do to leave a good legacy rather than looking to make our lives more comfortable? It's about time we stopped making life about stuff, but make it about the impact you will make for future generations.
I have come to realise that one of the keys to feeling fulfilled in life when you have engraved in people's lives to remembered for generations. This, I believe, is greatness.
Life is not about the riches you gain, but your legacy that will remain.
What you engrave in someone's heart is very important, because when the head forgets, the heart will remember what you have done to them. The heart is very important place: it is usually known as the centre of true character. Feelings that trigger emotions flow from it.
What does this mean?
Depending on what you do, the heart, once touched, will trigger a particular emotion.
What we should aim for is to impact people in a positive way,so that when they remember you, it will be for what good you did, not the bad.
You must understand that greatness does not come easy. It is inevitable that you will go through trials and tribulations. But guess what: no great destiny or person came at a cheap price. Gold, a precious metal, has to go through the fire to increase in value. If you are going to be great, you have to go through the process to come out as pure gold. Do not be afraid, because God will never let you go through tribulation for no reason. You will come out better and stronger than before
The greatest example of this is Jesus Christ. You see, Jesus lived thousands of years before this time, but He is remembered till now. Jesus was not of upper class on earth: He was born in a stable. But He is remembered because He engraved something in people's hearts: LOVE.
Because of His love, He went through the tribulation of dying a criminal's death for something He did not do. People mocked him, publicly, but that did not stop Him for doing His destiny. Whilst we were sinning, mocking, He considered us worth dying for. Due to that, He is now seated far above, on the right hand side of God and He has saved all generations from eternal doom. Now if that is not greatness, then I don't know what is.
True greatness and love go hand-in-hand; they cannot go without the other. Without love as the basis of your 'greatness-building', your building of great works will topple.
The purpose of this article is to challenge you, Reader, on what you are doing now that will impact future generations. It's about time that we stopped living life for the taking and look at how our actions now will better our tomorrow. It's about time we stopped looking at our insecurities of the present and look at the potential of the future, which is attained by moving now.
How to start? Now that you got the gist, start now. Always remember that the little things you do now can occupy the biggest places in someone's heart. Give that person a call or a dazzling smile. Give a hug. Visit that person. Invite someone to church. As you do these small things, you will be able to do the larger things.
I saw this amazing quote on Toby Mac's Speak Life campaign: "Don't let your want for perfection become procrastination."
God has given you terrific talents, gifts and abilities for greatness and impact, not comfort. It's about time we used them to make someone's life better.
Make it your goal to leave the footprints of your legacy in the sands of time: timeless, never to be forgotten.
I will end this article with a Zig Zagler quote: "You do not have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great."
